About SAMRC
The Students’ Association of Mount Royal College (the SAMRC) is the student government body that represents and serves Mount Royal College students. The SAMRC is located at the Mount Royal College Lincoln Park campus in southwest Calgary. We are a charitable organization that owns and operates the student centre, Wyckham House.

Incorporated in 1967, SAMRC is the oldest college student government in Alberta. We remain as committed to College life today as we were at our humble beginnings. Today, we have over 26,000 active and associate members, 18 Student Councillors (including 14 non-executive and 4 executive positions), 24 full-time staff, roughly 100 part time staff, over 300 volunteers, and an annual operating budget of $6.9 million.

The SAMRC is also one of the leading college student governments in Canada. This reputation has been earned through our long-standing and active commitment to improving the quality of life of Mount Royal College students as well as advocating for all students.

SAMRC and the students' centre (Wyckham House) is owned and operated by you, the MRC students. The operations of the SA are directed by four elected student executives who act as a representative body for all Mount Royal College students. The Executive Committee is a part of Students' Council which is the chief decision-making body of the Students' Association.

The SA offers its members a number of services which are outlined in detail throughout this site and in our Services Directory publication. Services are subsidized in part through your SA fees, but also through a variety of revenue generating and fund-raising activities. By eating in the Wyckham food court or by socializing in the Liberty, you are putting money into your SA that is then used to provide other essential services like access to the Peer Support Centre, Emergency Student Loans or the Food Bank.

Wyckham House Student Centre

Mount Royal College students have always been visionary and strongly independent. Back in 1964, students received a government grant to be used for the creation of a student building. Students also used a portion of the activity fee to create a building fund which would eventually be used to build a student centre.

Prior to the building of the Lincoln Park Campus, the original Wyckham House was located in a run-down, old house near the original MRC downtown campus. The house was named after an instructor, Robert Wyckham, who encouraged students to be independent. After moving to the Lincoln Park Centre, the Students' Association owned space within the college. Students, however, were dissatisfied and wanted their own space.

Officially opened in September 1987, Wyckham House is the student centre for Mount Royal College, owned and operated by students. Wyckham House celebrated its 10 year anniversary in 1997, along with the 30 year anniversary of the Students' Association. Wyckham House is currently expanding to provide more space and services to its student membership.

Wyckham House has four levels. The basement houses the Peer Support Centre, the Canadian Student Health Network, the Copywrite, a loading dock, some staff offices and washroom facilities. The main level includes the food court and food kiosks, the Collegiate Shop, The Liberty Lounge, the Reflector Newspaper office, and washroom facilities. On the second level, you can find Students' Council chambers, the SA Executive Committee and staff offices, a food kiosk, two study lounges and washroom facilities. The third level contains club and society meeting rooms, the Native Student Centre, some staff offices and washroom facilities. Wyckham House also has elevator access.

Come into Wyckham House today and explore the many services offered to students at Mount Royal College. This is your building.
