BILL BUSST

I believe it is the role of the President and the Executive of the Students’ Association to make student life stimulating. We need to ensure as many academic and social opportunities are made available to as many students as possible. The more feedback we have from our members, the better we can make the Students’ Association.

Within the upcoming year, the Students’ Association will be faced with the tasks of Council restructuring and addressing Wyckham House expansion. Although expansion will occur over the long term, the increasing use Wyckham House must be addressed now in order to leave future generations of students with a legacy. It is our responsibility as members of the Students Association to ensure these future members can access enhanced services and facilities that we as students enjoy today.

Tuition Fees and Student Debt are issues constantly plaguing students and the Students’ Association. Fortunately, we are entering a Provincial Election year. While not all students have taken out student loans, average student debt at graduation is increasing. As President of the Students’ Association, I will lobby provincial candidates to do what is right for post-secondary education.

Executive accessibility and accountability are also important to me. As President, it is important to maintain a focus on student body needs. Similarly, it is important for the student body to feel the Executive is accountable for its decisions. Ultimately, the commitment to being a member of the Student Executive Committee is 12 full months of intense activity.

I have considered the commitment required for the year as President and I am prepared to accept the challenges and obstacles presented. We have a great deal to be proud of as members of the Students’ Association. Please take the time during the campaign period to get to know the candidates and their platforms for the various positions.
