The Students' Association of Mount Royal College was incorporated under the Societies Act in 1967. Today, the
Association has over 11,000 active members, roughly 40 full
and part-time staff, and a $3.7 million operating budget.
The Students' Association exists for the purpose of ensuring
that Mount Royal College students have an opportunity to
participate in all matters that may affect the quality of
student life at Mount Royal College.
The responsibilities associated with this mandate are immense.
The Students' Association ensures that all students are
well-represented on approximately thirty academic and
non-academic committees and boards on and off campus. In
addition, the Association provides students with avenues for
personal growth and development outside of the classroom. The
Students’ Association also operates roughly 15 businesses and
dozens of services that are designed to help students get
through each day.
The responsibility for managing the Association rests with the
four elected students who form SA’s Executive Committee:
The SA’s Executives are elected by and from the Active
members of the Students' Association to carry out the
administrative and executive function of MRC's student
government.
These four students serve from May 1 of the year that
they were elected to May 15 of the following year,
allowing for a two-week overlap between incoming and
outgoing Executive members.
Each Executive member is a full-time, paid employee of
the Students' Association and must take one course per
semester (excluding the Spring and Summer terms),
maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher, and
keep full-time office hours.
The Executive Committee deals with issues like tuition
and loan policies, staffing, student advocacy and
lobbying, academic appeals, and external relations.
All Active members of the Students' Association are
able to vote in the election. Active members are full-
and part-time students who are taking credit courses
and non-credit students who have paid their Students'
Association membership fee. Voting is on March 4th,
5th and 6th, with online voting running from Feb 25 to
March 1 at:
