The Students’ Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) seeks passionate and dedicated students to fill vacant positions on Students’ Council. The Students’ Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) is the student government body that represents and serves Mount Royal University students. The SAMRU is a charitable organization that owns and operates the student centre, Wyckham House. Students’ Council is a policy-making Board of Directors for the Students’ Association and collectively the highest decision-making body of SAMRU. As such, all Students’ Councillors have a important role in directing the organization as a whole and acting as its public representatives.

Requirements for Students’ Council Membership

In order to serve on Students’ Council, you must:

  • Be a Mount Royal University Student enrolled in at least one credit course
  • Commit to the work and mission of the Students’ Association of Mount Royal University;
  • Be willing to serve on committees;
  • Attend bi-weekly Students’ Council meetings, typically held on Monday evenings;
  • Attend meetings of assigned committees, typically held on Monday evenings opposite of Council meeting days;
  • Attend Annual and Special General Meetings;
  • Attend membership meetings as assigned;
  • Support, and participate in, Students’ Association fundraising events;
  • Fulfill all other volunteer requirements as outlined in the Students’ Association’s policies and procedures;
  • Maintain a cumulative G.P.A of 2.0 or higher;

Students’ Council meets twice a month from September to April. Students’ Councillors receive excellent training and support in areas of board governance and committee work and receive an honorarium for their hard work on students’ behalf. Last year’s members of Students’ Council described their experiences as successful, beneficial, professional and an overall excellent opportunity where their skills were utilized and valued, as well as enhanced through the experience of serving on the board.

2010-2011 Students’ Council

 
Students’ Council is collectively the highest decision-making body of SAMRU . Students’ Council is a policy-making Board of Directors for the Students’ Association of Mount Royal University. As such, all Governors have a clearly defined governance role that focuses on the organization as a whole. Students’ Council has 18 seats. All members of Council, regardless of position, are entitled to a single vote at Students’ Council meetings.
 
 

Students’ Council Composition:

Students’ Council is made up of 18 positions: 4 members of the Executive Committee (President, Vice-president Academic, Vice-president External, Vice-president Student Life) and 14 Governors. The members of the Executive Committee are elected in the Winter semester. The role of the Executive Committee is to carry out administrative and executive functions of Mount Royal University’s student government. Election/Appointment

Governors are elected in the Winter semester for the following academic year. Any positions that are not filled in the Winter elections are appointed the following Fall semester.
