Sadiq VallianiArts RepresentativeEmail: Sadiq Valliani is enthusiastic, outgoing, fun-loving and best of all: he’s your Arts Representative. He likes long walks on the beach, the occasional board meeting, and some committee stuff here & there. He loves attending class, standing up for equal treatment, and ensuring fair representation. He wants to make this year memorable for students by pumping up school spirit, forming an awesome 5-year plan, and making our campus the best of them all! Holly MazurCommunications Studies RepresentativeEmail: Holly Mazur is the Communications Representative on this year’s Student Council. This being her first year at Mount Royal in Open Studies and first year in Student Council she is excited to make a difference within our university. An outgoing, organized individual who always puts her best efforts forward is looking forward to meeting the student body at MRU. No matter the situation she plans on putting all her knowledge into SAMRU. |

Meghan MelnykHealth and Community Studies RepresentativeEmail: Meghan was born in Calgary, raised in Burnaby B.C. (a great little city right next to Vancouver). She is currently in the Technical Writing Certification Program through Communication Studies. This is her first year on the Students’ Council and she is full of enthusiasm for the possibilities! Besides Students’ Council; Meghan is a member of the Mount Royal University Varsity Golf Team, she also sits on the board of directors for the Peanut Butter Classic Society, a Charity Golf Tournament, and is a Lieutenant in the CIC component of the Canadian Forces. You will most likely see her with a smile and a camera in her hand. She is always willing to listen and discuss any thoughts, ideas, and questions with you. |

Tommy LieuScience and Technology RepresentativeEmail: Tommy is currently in his second year, working towards his Bachelor of Science degree here at Mount Royal University. This is Tommy’s second year as the Student Representative of the faculty of Science and Technology for the SAMRU. As a returning councillor he knows that he will be able to bring his previous experience and knowledge of student governance to good use. Tommy hopes to achieve even more this year as a student representative and student advocate. |

Troy McleodAboriginal Students’ RepresentativeEmail: Troy is currently a full-time student in the Policy Studies Undergraduate program. He is committed to the concerns of aboriginal (and all) students of MRU. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary. Troy is the owner and broker for a real estate company and mortgage brokerage. Outside his studies and work he enjoys music, playing guitar, practicing Tae Kwon Do, and riding his motorcycle. He would like to learn French and Michif, mountain biking, rock climbing and dance. |

Fadwa KhouriehStudents with Disabilities RepresentativeEmail: Hey I’m Fadwa Khourieh and I am the Students’ with Disabilities Representative of student council for the 2009-2010 school year. I am a first year student at Mount Royal University in the Business Administration program. Passions of mine are dance, acting, basketball, swimming, field hockey, ice hockey and hanging out with friends. What I would like to accomplish in this year as a council member is to interact with you, the students, and get involved in our school community. My goal is to bring the students’ voice to the council and let them be heard. I believe that no matter what the odds are or how hard something is, that if we work together as a community our dreams are endless. |

Tegan SmythBusiness and Entrepreneurial Students’ RepresentativeEmail: Tegan Smyth is this year’s Business and Entrepreneurship representative and she is currently in her third year of the BBA program in General Management. Tegan is happy to have the opportunity to be serving on student’s council and is excited to help find new ways for student’s to get involved in their University. When Tegan is not in class, she is hard at work in her own business, Prairie Plates Mobile Luncheonette, which she co-owns with her sister Kyla. Tegan is very interested in your suggestions for MRU but also appreciates suggestions for great restaurants and good wine under $20. |

Jermyn VoonCommissioner to the Vice President Student LifeEmail: Jermyn Voon is the Commissioner to the Vice-President Student Life. He is in his third year in the General Business program, and is hoping to enter the Accounting program at the end of the year. This is his first year to Students Council but ran in last year’s student election. Jermyn is excited to bring his passion about politics and student leadership, after serving a term as Vice President of Operations for the Democracy Club of Mount Royal. Jermyn is also currently a volunteer with both the AccessAbility Centre and Cultural Mosaic Centre. He is also passionate about student governance and committed to making sure that student voices are heard. Outside class, he is politically active and encourages others to be involved in the political process. For the past two summers, he worked with the Canada Revenue Agency. Jermyn encourages and invites all the students at Mount Royal to take an active role and make a difference. |
