The Student Advocacy Coordinator provides confidential support and options for individual students dealing with both academic and non-academic advocacy concerns and questions. Students may have a number of different reasons for seeking support. Here are several examples of situations where any student may need additional assistance:
• Student Code of Conduct allegations (academic & non-academic)
• Appealing your final grade in a class
• Questions about MRU processes or procedures
• Withdrawing from a class (with or without cause)
• Concerns about instructors
• Deferring a final exam
• Requirement to withdraw from MRU
• Meeting tips, communication, active-listening, and conflict resolution skills
• How to become your best self-advocate
• Connect you to places (both on and off campus) for help with basic needs like: food, transportation, clothing, emergency student loans, or counselling referrals
The Student Advocacy Coordinator can assist students by advising them about their unique situation, assisting students in reviewing any written submissions, supporting the student through an appeal process and attending the formal hearing(s) as the student’s attendant, if requested. The Student Advocacy Coordinator can also refer students to the Vice-President Student Academic Affairs as required for additional advocacy and support.
