Diversity Centre (LGBTIQ)

The Diversity Centre (DVC) is dedicated to fostering a safe environment for people of all genders and sexual orientations. We provide education, information, referral services and peer-support. The DVC organizes social and political activities on-campus and promotes sexual and gender diversity at Mount Royal.

Some of the services and programs we offer are:

• Resource library
• Peer counselling
• Sexual education
• Referral services
• LGBTIQ themed magazines
• Gay-friendly house listings
• Gender and sexual diversity workshops

We help students through our commitment to eliminate discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The Diversity Centre is a place where GLBTIQ students and their supporters will not feel marginalized or discriminated; where they can access services and resources to improve their college experience and their lives in general.

Pride Week

Do you want to help create a more positive environment for LGBTTIQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual, Two-spirited, Intersex, Queer/Questioning) students on campus? Do you want to challenge stereotypes and get involved with others who feel the same?

Whether you’re member of the Queer community or not, come out and show your PRIDE this February during SAMRU’s Pride Week.

Help the Diversity Centre promote sexual and gender diversity here on the MRU campus by joining in on the Pride Week events from February 22nd-26th, 2010. Some of the events you can join in on include:

• Movies that Matter presents Transamerica – 4-6pm, Art Gallery, Monday February 22nd
• Sexual Health Fair - 10-2pm, Main Street, Tuesday February 23rd
• Pride Week Karaoke – 7pm, Liberty Lounge, Wednesday February 24th
• Diversity Centre Open House – 10-5pm, Diversity Centre on the third floor of Wyckham House, Thursday February 25th – with free snacks all day!
• Positive Spaces Mixer – 4-7pm, Liberty Lounge, Thursday February 25th
• Queer & Fabulous – Great queer movies all day, all week long in the Diversity Centre

All students, staff, faculty and visitors are welcome at Pride Week events regardless of sexual orientation or gender. All you need is a welcoming spirit and a sense of community! Check out our calendar for all the information about what’s happening during Pride Week in the SAMRU!
