Volunteer Opportunities

We all benefit
There are plenty of volunteer opportunities at the Students' Association. Volunteering is an enriching experience in so many ways and provides you with a sense of accomplishment. You can assist a fellow student in getting through his or her day or you can make a difference by representing other students in various capacities. When you become part of our team, you have an opportunity to:

  • support a cause you truly believe in

  • apply your current skills and gain some new ones

  • meet new people, make new friends and develop professional contacts

  • feel the personal satisfaction of helping others

  • make a difference in your school

Volunteering can also assist you in earning awards. Finally, volunteering helps you develop a diverse skill set, required in today's job market. Some of the skills you receive for volunteering include:

  • Communication and listening

  • Interpersonal

  • Desktop publishing/ computer skills

  • Administrative and office protocol

  • Planning and development

  • Problem-solving

  • Fund-raising

  • Public speaking

Think you don’t have any skills to offer? You’d be surprised. And, if you need training, we’ll provide it.

ACADEMIC COUNCIL VOLUNTEERS

Academic Councillors participate on Academic Council and its various sub-committees by representing student interests. Academic Council reviews and develops policies that deal with academic activities at the College, then passes its recommendations on to the Board of Governors. See the Academic Council page for more information.

There are many benefits to be gained from being an Academic Councillor, especially if you want to expand your work experience. Consider this:

  • Get practical professional meeting skills and experience

  • Work with college professionals

  • Represent student concerns on the only decision-making body in the College where students have an equal voice.

A small honorarium is given in recognition of your time and efforts.

SAMRC STUDENT CLUBS

Volunteer yourself to get elected as a representative on a Club Executive Committee, or you can be an active member and volunteer your services for events and fund raisers.

PSC SEASON OF CARING VOLUNTEERS

Help families and children of students have a better holiday season by volunteering for the annual Season of Caring Project.

E-AWARDS SELECTION COMMITTEE

This Selection Committee reviews all nominations for student E-Awards recipients. The Selection Committee begins meeting after March 15. Volunteers are then invited to attend the E-Awards banquet.

CULTURAL MOSAIC CENTRE

The purpose of the Cultural Mosaic Centre (CMC) is to provide international students with networking opportunities and social activities while promoting cultural awareness on campus. This program has been designed specifically to identify and provide services to meet the diverse needs of international students.

Anyone interested in participating is asked to contact the at 440-5185 or go to the Cultural Mosaic Centre in room Z010 in the basement of Wyckham House.

NATIVE STUDENT CENTRE VOLUNTEERS

The Native Student Centre (NSC) provides a networking environment in which students can access educational support and resources while undertaking their studies at Mount Royal College.

PEER SUPPORT CENTRE VOLUNTEERS

Peer Supporters are student volunteers who have been professionally trained by the MRC Counselling Department to provide confidential support. Peer supporters can also help you cut through red tape to access other services throughout Calgary. Some of the services offered by the Peer Support Centre (PSC) are:

  • information resource

  • referrals

  • confidential support

  • college tours

  • food bank hampers

  • emergency student loans

  • free legal advice

Anyone who is interested in becoming a Peer Supporter is invited to contact the Peer Support Centre Coordinator at 440-6774 or by email at. Recruiting for Peer Supporters takes place in April and November.

SAFEWALK VOLUNTEERS

Safewalk is joint initiative between the Students' Association and Campus Security, where student volunteers provide the campus community with escorted walks within one kilometer of the College grounds and is available 24-hours a day.
