There are plenty of volunteer opportunities at the Students' Association. Volunteering is a wonderful part of your educational experience while at Mount Royal College. Volunteering provides you with a sense of accomplishment. You can assist a fellow student in getting through his or her day. You can make a difference by representing other students in various capacities. Volunteering can also assist you in earning awards. Finally, volunteering helps you develop a diverse skill set, required in today's job market. Some of the skills you receive for volunteering include:

Academic Councillors participate on Academic Council and its various sub-committees by representing student interests. Academic Council reviews and develops policies that deal with academic activities at the College, then passes its recommendations on to the Board of Governors. See the Academic Council page for more information.
There are many benefits to be gained from being an Academic Councillor, especially if you want to expand your work experience. Consider this:
Get practical professional meeting skills and experience
Work with top professional inside the college
Represent student concerns on the only decision-making body in the College where students have an equal voice.

The Action Committee needs students with an interest in socio-political activities and who want to make a difference. The Action Committee convenes to discuss strategies (such as rallies, media blitzes and information campaigns, petitions, etc.) to handle various external initiatives that impact students.

This Selection Committee reviews all nominations for student E-Awards recipients. The Selection Committee begins meeting after March 15. Volunteers are then invited to attend the E-Awards banquet.

Peer Supporters are student volunteers who have been professionally trained by the MRC Counselling Department to provide confidential support. Peer supporters can also help you cut through red tape to access other services throughout Calgary. Some of the services offered by the Peer Support Centre (PSC) are:

food bank hampers
emergency student loans
free legal advice

This volunteer is required to chair all Students' Council meetings (every second Monday at 5pm) and President's Caucus (same Mondays at 4 pm). You will be responsible for producing a monthly newsletter in conjunction with the SA Executives. To be eligible for this position you:
must be a member of the Students' Association
must be in good standing (which means that you've paid your fees and haven't broken any laws)
minimum GPA of 2.0
some knowledge of Robert's Rules is an asset
